Selank

Also known as: Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro

A synthetic seven-amino-acid peptide developed in Russia from a natural immune peptide called tuftsin, studied for anxiety-related effects.

Overview

Selank is a synthetic peptide built from tuftsin, a natural immune-system peptide, with extra amino acids added to make it more stable. It was developed in Russia, where it has been studied as a nasal treatment for anxiety.

What the research has looked at

Animal studies have reported anti-anxiety effects and changes in brain signaling systems. Small human studies, mostly published in Russia, have examined its effects in people with anxiety and related conditions.

What we do not know

  • Most published studies are small and come from a limited number of groups, and independent replication is lacking.
  • Its mechanism in humans is not well defined.
  • Long-term safety has not been established.

Regulatory context

Selank is not approved by US or EU regulators.
